After Telangana Exhibitors, mainly represented by Shirish Reddy and Asian Suniel Narang with others, met the press yesterday and put forth condition that from 24th May, they need percentage system in all single screens across two Telugu States, producers came out. Mythri Ravi, Sithara Naga Vamsi, Sahu Garapati, Sudhakar Cherukuri, Peddi producer Venkata Satish Kilaru have addressed press while majorly, Ravi and Naga Vamsi took questions.
Mythri Ravi stated that the sudden press meet before meeting at Chamber on 15th May, looks like an arm-twisting tactic rather than a genuine attempt at coming to an understanding and truce. He commented that he is ready to go to bigwigs and safeguard Peddi from all this, as the movie started under Rental system.
Ravi and Naga Vamsi unanimously stated that they cannot accept percentage system just like that when their big budget films are under production and when they are facing problems with OTT and Satellite markets. They both stated that at least for one and half year, they need time to release these films and then, they can clearly discuss about percentages and find a middle ground.
Further they stated that they are unable to understand how can they suddenly demand for percentages when big films have been working on same terms from past 3-5 years. Ravi commented that it looks like targetting few producers by Lessees, who took single theatres under lease, as they are not making money from the big films. Naga Vamsi aggressively stated that as producers they are ready to talk directly with theatre owners and not Lessees, who just want to increase their revenue, unilaterally.
Further, he countered that Asian Suniel has 300 theatres but he did not allow single screens to be renovated while he is increasing his multiplex count. Mythri Ravi stated that exhibitors cannot just unilaterally say that they need this much percentage and with that they will renovate. As producers, they have every right to ask for renovation first and few other transparent measures like rentrack to seriously establish a system where everyone can survive. Finally, they stated that they are not against percentage system but it cannot begin with Peddi and all other big films under production need to be played under rental system, only.
