Vaazha 2 became a huge blockbuster collecting over Rs.200 crores gross worldwide and became only 5th film in Malayalam films to achieve that mark. Sahu Garapati, the Telugu big producer joined original team of producers for this film and he decided to bring it in Telugu as Vaala 2. Let's discuss about the film in detail.
Plot:
Four Friends Hashir (Hashir), Alan (Alan Bin Siraj), Vinayak (Vinayak V) and Ajin (Ajin Joy) have been termed as losers by their parents and society. They grow close in college and develop a bond that is precious to each one of them. As their activities in college and their innocent yet amateurish steps create bigger troubles for them. To escape all, they decide to study hard and move to abroad. Could they? What are the issues they faced? Why are looked upon as losers? Watch the movie to know.
Analysis:
Performances of the ensemble cast are the major highlights of this movie. Hashir, Ajin, Alan and Vinayak really bonded as friends off-screen as well bringing it to on screen. Their ease, their camaraderie and the comedy in first hour, work really well. In the later half, the film turns way too preachy.
Still, the performances of each and every individual carry forward the film and its message. It tries to tell every youngster that life is more about emotional maturity than leading a life that society accepts as "Winners". It tries to say that nobody can be a loser and everyone should learn to win, even if it is against societal patterns.
Director Savin SA is good in handling comedy portions and the one-liners, physical body language comedy land appropriately. When it comes to emotional portions, he seems to believe in old school style melodrama a bit too much. It feels like he let the moment "breathe too much" at times.
Hence, while the message is important and prominent, the screenplay becomes a bit too draggy and preachy. But it is a big improvement from the first one and as they might plan a third, the makers should understand that tonal changes in a film needs to be subtle rather than too much on the face. On the whole, the movie is a comfort watch for everyone as the comedy works well enough.
Positives:
Performances
Comedy scenes
First hour
Relatability with characters and conflict
Negatives:
Preachy second hour
Weak Climax
Lengthy scenes
Draggy at places
Bottomline:
Vaazha 2 works as an easy watch with good subject.
Rating: 2.75/5
