TG Government orders big films to donate hiked prices

Aug 19, 2026 2:29PM

The Telangana government has issued an important order concerning the additional revenue generated through ticket price hikes for four upcoming big-ticket releases — Akhanda 2, The RajaSaab, Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu Pandagaki Vasthunnaru and Peddi. According to the order, 20% of the additional revenue earned through the increased ticket prices has to be contributed towards the welfare of Telugu film industry employees.

The government has authorized the concerned producers to collect the applicable 20% amount from their respective exhibitors on the additional revenue generated through ticket price hikes. The collected amount will then be deposited into the Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation Welfare Association account, which is being operated through the Telangana Film Development Corporation (TGFDC).

The order makes it clear that the contribution will apply specifically to the additional revenue generated because of the enhanced ticket prices, rather than the entire box office revenue of the films. The producers have been instructed to take the necessary steps to ensure that the applicable amount is collected and deposited in accordance with the existing government orders and guidelines.

The move comes at a time when ticket price hikes for major-star films have become an important part of the theatrical business model in Telangana. Producers and exhibitors have increasingly sought government permission for higher ticket prices, particularly for high-profile releases, allowing films to generate significantly higher revenue during their opening days.

Akhanda 2 starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, The RajaSaab starring Prabhas, Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu Pandagakki Vasthunnaru featuring Chiranjeevi and Peddi starring Ram Charan are among the major films covered by the latest order. With all four projects positioned as major theatrical releases, the additional revenue from approved ticket hikes could be substantial.

The government's decision effectively links the benefit of ticket price hikes with a welfare contribution to the film industry's workforce. The 20% contribution will be routed through TGFDC to the Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation Welfare Association, creating a formal mechanism for utilizing a portion of the additional theatrical revenue towards employee welfare.
