Spider-Man is one of the most loved superheroes in the world. His on-screen representations by MCU have been most successful and Tom Holland's take has become fan favourite. After Spider-Man No Way Home, the makers took five years gap to bring new iteration Spider-Man Brand New Day. Let's discuss about the movie released today.
Plot:
Spider-Man (Tom Holland) has to continue his life as a friendly neighborhood superhero in New York after Doctor Strange's spell has made everyone forget that he is Peter Parker. He keeps watching the vlogs of his friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) about MIT and MJ (Zendaya). He becomes an official freelance detective for NYPD and US Damage Control.
He faces a new threat with Jean Grey (Sadie Sink) attacking Damage Control assets and he is only one who can sense her. But his human DNA starts to give in to heightened Archanid DNA. He has to find a way to balance them both, accept and fight this biggest threat. Will he be able to find a way? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis:
Tom Holland is good as Spider-Man as always. This time around the makers have tried to put him more in the suit and give Andrew Garfield style flight scenes with more POV shots. He is good in emotional scenes as well. Zendaya is good, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh and Mark Ruffalo all give their best.
Sadie Sink looks brilliant and her acting capabilities are also good within the scope she had. But the problem lies in the makers not hitting emotional notes perfectly. It looks like they have chosen easy paths to escape complexity and too simplify the emotional weight.
The major evolution of Spider-Man is linked to him accepting the fact that he is Peter Parkar and a superhero. He cannot give up on one for another while his anonymous identity is being maintained. He cannot distance himself from everyone just to protect them from himself or dangers that his life could cause.
But this major emotional thread is treated lightly. While they did try to handle the weight of it in few scenes, it doesn't land as anticipated with similar gravitas as in New Way Home. The action sequences also doesn't land as perfectly as previous iteration.
Still, Brand New Day is a better experience than Spider-Man Homecoming. It is on par with Far From Home but as epic or as emotional and adventurous as No Way Home. On the whole, Brand New Day is fun to watch for fans but not the epic that they look forward to.
