The controversy around viral bikini visuals falsely linked to actress Rukmini Vasanth has now moved beyond social media discussion into legal action. In a major development on June 20, Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police arrested three people accused of creating and circulating AI-generated images and videos using the actress’s identity.
The issue first exploded in May after manipulated visuals began spreading online claiming to show Rukmini in a poolside bikini shoot. The actress quickly responded and clarified that the content was completely fabricated using AI and deepfake tools. She called it a serious violation of privacy and announced legal action against those responsible.
Following her complaint, cyber authorities opened an investigation and traced multiple accounts involved in creating and amplifying the content. Earlier this month, FIRs had reportedly been registered against 29 social media accounts across platforms as investigators expanded the digital trail and sought platform cooperation.
Now, police have confirmed the arrest of three accused allegedly connected to generating and distributing the manipulated visuals. Reports state that mobile phones used in creating and sharing the content were seized as part of the probe. The accused were produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded while further investigation continues into whether additional people were involved.
The development marks one of the stronger responses seen in a celebrity deepfake case in India. While there is no final court verdict yet, the arrests indicate that authorities are treating AI-driven impersonation and digital character assassination with increasing seriousness. Rukmini had earlier stated that such misuse of technology does not affect only public figures but can become a wider issue for women online.
