Ravi Teja sparks intense debates over his remarks

Aug 17, 2026 3:40PM

Ravi Teja’s interaction with child actor Baby Nakshatra at the Irumudi pre-release event has now become a talking point on social media. What was meant to be a light-hearted exchange between the actor and his young co-star has turned controversial after Ravi Teja used the phrase “Muduru Munda” while giving her a nickname.

The conversation happened when Nakshatra asked Ravi Teja what nickname he would give her. The actor thought for a moment and responded with “Muduru Munda.” When Nakshatra asked what the word meant, Ravi Teja reportedly brushed it off by saying he would explain it later. The video from the event has since gone viral.

The word “Muduru” by itself can be used in a playful way to describe someone who acts more mature or clever than their age. However, it is the second word that has become the issue. In Telugu, “Munda” is traditionally used to refer to a widow and is also considered an insulting or derogatory term in common usage. That has made the remark uncomfortable for many viewers, particularly because it was directed at a young girl on a public stage.

Social media reactions have been divided, with several users questioning why Ravi Teja chose that particular expression while interacting with a child. At the same time, some have argued that the actor may have used the phrase casually or in a playful context, and that its interpretation can vary depending on how it is used.

The incident has therefore shifted attention away from what was otherwise a promotional event for Irumudi. Ravi Teja plays Nakshatra’s father in the film, which is directed by Shiva Nirvana and is scheduled for release on August 21. With the short video continuing to circulate online, the debate is now less about the intention behind the joke and more about whether such language was appropriate for a public interaction with a child.
