Rajamouli Reveals a Big Update about Varanasi

Jul 1, 2026 6:47PM

SS Rajamouli has shared a major production update on his highly anticipated globe-trotting adventure Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu in the lead. The ace filmmaker revealed that the film has reached the final leg of production, with only around 80 days of shooting left before principal photography is wrapped up.

Speaking during his recent international interactions, Rajamouli said the team has already completed a major portion of the film, including the massive action episodes designed for the IMAX format. The remaining schedules will primarily focus on filming the smaller, interconnecting scenes that tie the story together. If everything goes according to plan, the shoot is expected to be completed by September or early October.

Varanasi has been mounted on a grand scale with Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran playing pivotal roles. The film has already made headlines for being India's first feature designed specifically for both IMAX and CinemaScope formats, with Rajamouli stating that the team planned the visual scale from the scripting stage itself.

With the shoot nearing completion, the excitement around Varanasi has reached another level. The makers are now gearing up to finish the remaining portions before shifting their focus to the extensive post-production work that Rajamouli's films are known for. Scheduled to release in April 2027, Varanasi is easily one of the most anticipated Indian films in production today.
