Superstar Rajinikanth and Universal Hero Kamal Haasan have shared friendship, competition and mutual admiration for more than five decades. Now, the two legends have finally come together for a special project with Rajini headlining a film produced by Kamal Haasan’s RKFI. Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, the movie has been launched today with a grand pooja ceremony and the title has been locked as Dharman.

The biggest highlight from the launch has to be Rajinikanth’s striking first look. Rajini will be seen as a doctor but not in a conventional avatar. Dressed in operation attire with blood-stained gloves and a scalpel in hand, the poster carries the line — “A name that stands for justice. A force that commands respect.” The combination of a surgeon look with Rajini’s trademark swag has instantly grabbed attention and many are already calling it one of his most powerful title looks in recent years. Simran plays the leading lady.

Director Ashwath Marimuthu looked emotional at the event and admitted that being a Rajinikanth fan, directing him itself is a dream while working under Kamal Haasan initially felt intimidating. He revealed that Kamal eased his nerves by saying he too is a Rajini fan. Ashwath added that the script carries entertaining elements reminiscent of Padayappa/Narasimha and Raghavan/Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu.

Kamal Haasan kept it simple and heartfelt. Thanking audiences for keeping them relevant for decades, he said Rajinikanth took extra responsibility and made things easy for him as a producer. With Rajni and the team handling everything, Kamal joked that he can now sit back and relax.

But Rajinikanth’s words stole the show. Rajini recalled his early career days and revealed that Kamal Haasan was among the first people in the industry to encourage his unique style when others questioned it. He shared that Kamal backed him to perform in his own manner and that identity later became his signature. Rajini requested Kamal to stay involved throughout the journey and said Dharman should become a memorable blockbuster for their friendship. Regular shoot of the film begins from tomorrow.
