Deewana Team Alleges Unfair Treatment by Censor Board

Jun 22, 2026 3:41PM

The team behind Telugu film Deewana has made serious allegations against the censor process after the film’s release plans reportedly suffered due to certification delays. What was originally planned as a Friday release with paid premieres eventually got pushed, creating financial pressure on the makers.

According to reports circulating around the issue, the makers initially expected a U/A certificate but were allegedly asked to make additional modifications during the certification process. The delay reportedly disrupted release planning and affected advance momentum for the film.

For a big-budget film, release postponements can sometimes be absorbed. But for smaller films depending on opening weekend occupancy and word-of-mouth, even a one-day shift can become costly. The Deewana episode has once again triggered discussion in industry circles about whether the current certification mechanism is becoming increasingly difficult for small and medium-budget films.

Interestingly, despite the hurdles, Deewana eventually reached theatres and early audience reactions have largely been positive, with viewers appreciating the emotional storytelling and performances.

While no official detailed response from the censor authorities has emerged regarding the allegations, the incident has reopened a familiar debate in the film industry — whether certification should regulate content alone or avoid becoming an obstacle to release schedules.
