Aiming for this year's Valentine's Day, Santhosh Sobhan has starred in a romantic film, Couple Friendly. Manasa Varanasi is playing the female lead role in this city based new-age romantic film produced by UV Concepts. The movie released today, on 14th February 2026, and let's discuss about it in detail.
Plot:
Shiva (Santosh Shoban), hailing from Nellore, finds himself as a loser who is deemed to be "fit-for-nothing" by his father (Goparaju Ramana). With an eye for aesthetics, he tries to make it as an independent interior designer in Chennai. He meets Mithra (Manasa Varanasi), who hails from Chittoor and trying to get placed in a big IT company as a bike pooling rider. Both decide to share a room as their problems pile up.
Mithra spots Shiva's talent and slowly starts to understand his lack of communication skills that are hampering his progress. So, she starts to help him putting aside her ambition. They confess to their strong feelings and convert their roommates situationship into live-in relationship. After he finds success, she starts to look to fulfil her dream but this results in a dire argument. What happens next? Where will their story lead to? Watch the movie to know more.
Analysis:
Santosh Shoban is good in his role and he brings believability to a struggling individual in a big city. After achieving success, he is able to bring that contrast in his body language brilliantly. His performance is a highlight for the film. Manasa Varanasi looked good, performed well in first half but towards climax, she needed to bring a bit more finesse to her expressions to increase the impact.
Writing by Ashwin Chandrasekar is good and relatable in the first hour as he fills it with genuine moments. He never over simplifies or exaggerate the situationship and live-in relationship. The sequences are designed to be grounded and real without trying to over-sell anything.
But similar level precision is missing in second hour. The film tends to run in circles at times as the resolution seems to be predictable. Here, the moments needed to be written and executed in even more impactful manner. There are beats but not enough material that really shines through for the resolution to work.
In the second hour, the ease in writing and groundedness are replaced by stretching and dragging at places. Sequences don't really hit home and hence, the film ends up being less impactful than the first hour. Technical values are good and better music would have helped film. It's a good attempt from makers but the moments needed much more polish for it to make an impact.
Positives:
Santhosh Sobhan performance.
First half chemistry between leads
Genuine feel in first half
Technical values
Negatives:
Tonal shift in second hour
Predictable and draggy climax
Diluted impact
Bottomline:
A good attempt that is undermined by an impactless second hour.
Rating: 2.5/5
