Kiran Abbavaram has been very careful with his choice of scripts after a string of flops. He is back after K Ramp with Chennai Love Story. The makers are promising another Baby kind of cult love story. Let's discuss about the film in detail. 

Plot: 

Steven Shankar (Kiran Abbavaram) is an orphan and he wants to make a big name in films. He meets Nivedha aka Nivi (Sri Gouri Priya) who is depressed and addicted to alcohol. Her love Arun (Adith Arun) left her at the alter on the marriage day and hence, she stays elusive. Steven being an innocent and friendly person, slowly impresses her. She wants to get married to him but tragedy strikes. What happened on the day of marriage? Where does the story go after that forms the crux of the plot. 

Analysis: 

Kiran Abbavaram is good in few portions but his limited skills when it comes expressing deep emotions is evident here. At places, he couldn't really elevate the scene on the paper while he did a good job in few. Sri Gouri Priya is excellent in the first hour but few close ups and scenes in second half doesn't match to her intensity. All others do not leave much of an impression. 

The idea of someone unable to move on and their need to stay in presence of the significant other is a very relatable plot point. But Sai Rakesh's story and Ravi Namburii screenplay don't really shine beyond few places here and there. The sequences lack any sort of groundedness. 

It feels superficial to see someone be too innocent as the character doesn't feel grounded. Leading lady's character is written with depth but similar depth is not seen in leading man's character. It feels like standard tropes being rehashed with New lines of dialogue. Screenplay at places jumps ten steps ahead and at places reaches a stagnation. 

Mani Sharma's music lacks impact but songs are decent. Cinematography, production values, sound design and mixing, make up are decent enough. Editing could have been better. The most important portions of the film lack the depth that is needed to elevate the scene and hence, it feels like a film that drags too much. Overall, the movie ends being a decent attempt with too many flaws.

Bottomline: 

Chennai Love Story suffers from predictability and indulgence.
