Allari Naresh is returning to comedy with Rambha Urvasi Menaka, and the actor believes the film takes him back to the kind of broad, situational entertainment associated with his father EVV Satyanarayana. The socio-fantasy comedy, directed by Chandramohan, is set for a worldwide release on September 4.

The basic premise itself gives the film a different comic setup. Instead of humans travelling to heaven, Rambha, Urvasi and Menaka descend to Earth, where Naresh plays a man running a drama company. His character worships the celestial beauties and believes their blessings can somehow make him a hero in a big film without actually putting in the effort.

That premise allows Naresh to play the sort of flawed, opportunistic character that suits his comic style. He borrows money from practically everyone in the village and has earned the distrust of the people around him. His obsession with becoming a film hero also explains the OG spoof seen in the trailer, with Naresh's character communicating almost entirely through references and situations borrowed from cinema.

The film also brings together a sizeable comedy ensemble, with Srinivasa Reddy and VK Naresh travelling alongside the protagonist. Vennela Kishore as Lord Indra is another interesting casting choice, with the actor reportedly playing the character in a contemporary comic style, including English and Hindi dialogue.

For Naresh, the timing of Rambha Urvasi Menaka is significant. After a run of films leaning towards darker or more serious subjects, he sees the current gap for uncomplicated comedy as an opportunity to return to his strongest space.
