Home  »  News  »  Thalapathy Vijay political journey did not start with TVK

Updated : Apr 21, 2026

Actor Vijay’s entry into politics with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) might seem recent, but the groundwork was laid over two decades ago. His father, veteran director S.A. Chandrasekhar, has shared that Vijay’s political roadmap was meticulously planned from the early days of his stardom.

Chandrasekhar organized Vijay's fans into a welfare association to foster a strong grassroots connection. This robust political base was quietly built across Tamil Nadu through sustained social work. Testing these political waters early on, Chandrasekhar recently recalled how they actively mobilized this base and campaigned for the AIADMK when J. Jayalalithaa was alive.

However, when Vijay expressed his ambition to officially enter politics, his father was cautious. Chandrasekhar revealed that he warned his son about the severe political friction and harassment he would face from established giants like the AIADMK and, most notably, the DMK. He cautioned that his massive popularity would make him an immediate target for the ruling class.

Today, Chandrasekhar claims those early warnings have become reality. He points out that the ruling DMK is intentionally harassing Vijay to stifle his political rise. He firmly believes that these systemic hurdles and pressure tactics from the DMK are clear signs of their deep insecurity regarding TVK's growing influence on the ground.
