Superstar Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth's marriage is said to be in trouble if reports are anything to go by. Soundarya has directed her father in Kochadaiiyaan. She was also instrumental in introducing him to Pa Ranjith, with whom the superstar would go on to make Kabali. Soundarya and industrialist Ashwin Ramkumar who had tied the knot in a grand event in 2010 with approval from family elders, following a courtship period of two years are said to be heading for a divorce.

Soundarya and Ashwin have a son named Ved, who was born on May 6, 2015. According to reports Rajinikanth, who turned from the US, stayed with Soundarya and tried to compromise his daughter. However, Soundarya decided to go ahead with a legal separation. When Ashwin was asked about this, he refused to comment on the issue. Rumours of trouble in Soundarya Rajinikanth's marriage have been doing the rounds for a while as she was not seen with her husband at public places.

The speculations grew stronger after she promoted her father's "Kabali" with her sibling Aishwarya and brother-in-law Dhanush and not with Ashwin. The divorce proceedings have already reached the family court, indicating that there is no going back for either party. While the split was being prepared for over the last few months, the couple maintained silence through it all to ensure no untoward media attention.
