Sandeep Kishan has built a reputation for picking varied subjects and experimenting across genres. Now, he is stepping into the digital space with Super Subbu, the first-ever Telugu Netflix Original series directed by Tillu Square fame Mallik Ram. The makers unveiled the trailer today and it promises a quirky, unapologetic comedy packed with social commentary.

The trailer introduces Subbu, a young man raised under the strict supervision of his father, played by Murli Sharma, who makes him wear a bell to keep his thoughts and behaviour in check. As he grows up, Subbu becomes an assistant professor and lands an unusual posting — a Sex Education teacher in Maakipur village.

But there’s a twist. The village is known for its unusually high fertility rate and the government hopes Subbu can trigger awareness and bring change. Instead, he finds himself becoming the subject of jokes and resistance from villagers, turning his mission into complete chaos.

Sandeep Kishan looks completely at ease in this awkward, innocent and frustration-filled character. His comic timing appears to be the biggest strength of the trailer. Mallik Ram, after delivering a blockbuster entertainer with Tillu Square, seems to have approached the sensitive subject with humour rather than controversy.

With Mithila Palkar as the female lead and a strong comic ensemble including Brahmanandam, Super Subbu appears to be aiming for edgy yet accessible entertainment. The series will premiere on Netflix from July 2.
