Updated : May 23, 2017

Senior Telugu actor Chalapathi Rao made derogatory remarks during Naga Chaitanya and Rakul Preet Singh starrer Rarandoy Veduka Chudham audio release function. When the veteran actor was asked to react on a dialogue in the film, 'Ammayilu Manasanthiki Hanikaram' (girls are injurious to mental peace), for which he replied saying, "Ammayilu hanikaram kadu kani pakkaloki panikostaru (girls are not harmful, but they are useful on bed)."

These shameful comments of Chalapathi Rao might have irked the film unit and few others in the industry. Nagarjuna commented stating, "I always respect women personally and in my films/I definitely do not agree with Chalapati Rao's derogatory comments/dinosaurs do not exist!!(sic)"

Naga Chaitanya too reacted and tweeted, "Respecting women is a way of life for me.The reactions shown on TV weren't for the statement made.Do I agree with it ?Absolutely NOT !"

Rarandoy Veduka Chudham actress Rakul Preet Singh too reacted by releasing a statement which reads, “In response to Chalapathi Rao’s controversial comments on women, Rakul Preet Singh reacted angrily. She comes out defending that she was unaware of its meaning, due to lack of knowledge of his words. After the media buzz around it, she finally went into it and commented that she would have responded on the stage itself if she understood the demeaning words he used regarding women. She seriously condemned those statements.

Also, she felt that he being a senior member in Telugu Film fraternity, must know his age and behave accordingly. Such comments would bring a negative shade to people who are close to him. People of his stature represent the industry and newcomers may feel low if such events were to do rounds around the film circles.

Closing her statement, she added that, beginners like her most of the times choose to remain silent out of respect for the seniors, but this occasion cannot be one of those and such seniors should also know where to draw the line in scenarios like this.”

Movie Artists Association (MAA) is also conducting a meeting today to discuss on the matter.
