Updated : May 28, 2026

Ram Charan's upcoming sports drama, Peddi marks a significant shift from standard commercial cinema, focusing instead on the untold survival stories of India's rural athletes. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana with music by AR Rahman, the film moves away from urban backdrops to explore the grassroots realities of tribal and village sports. During a recent media interaction in New Delhi, Ram Charan emphasized that the film is a deeply rooted reflection of the true Indian spirit.

Highlighting the film's core theme of empowerment, he shared a poignant conversation he had with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about a grassroots talent from West Bengal who ended up inspiring an entire village to pursue athletics. Charan noted that Peddi aims to capture that exact kind of rural resilience on a global canvas.

The project demanded intense dedication from its cast to bring these raw stories to life. Ram Charan, who portrays a crossover athlete, described his physical transformation into a wrestler as the most grueling challenge of his career. Co-star Janhvi Kapoor highlighted Charan’s unique approach to the craft, expressing awe at how he conserved his calm energy off-camera only to deliver explosive performances during takes.

For her own part, Kapoor revealed that she modeled her boldly unapologetic character directly after the director's own fierce conviction. Shifting the focus from mere entertainment to lasting impact, the team urged parents to experience the June 4 release in theaters with their children, hoping the journey of these unsung heroes will inspire the next generation to dream beyond their circumstances. Venkata Satish Kilaru produced the film on a massive scale.
