The Madras High Court has officially dismissed an appeal filed by actress Tamannaah Bhatia, where she sought ₹1 crore in damages from Power Soaps Limited. The division bench, comprising Justices P. Velmurugan and K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi, upheld a previous 2017 ruling by a single judge that rejected the actor's compensation claim.
The legal dispute originated from an endorsement contract Tamannaah signed with the soap brand in October 2008. The agreement allowed the company to use her images for promotional purposes for exactly one year. However, the actress alleged that Power Soaps Limited continued to feature her photographs on product packaging and advertisements throughout 2010 and 2011 without her consent.
She claimed this unauthorized commercial use negatively impacted her professional prospects while she was negotiating with competing brands. Despite these claims, the High Court concluded that the actor failed to provide credible and sufficient evidence to prove that the brand continued using her pictures after the contract expired in October 2009.
The court found the submitted materials, which included product wrappers and internet listings, to be unreliable for establishing continued usage. Consequently, the bench found no grounds to interfere with the earlier judgment, bringing an end to the long-standing legal battle.
