Positives:

1. Pawan Kalyan
2. First Half
3. Rao Ramesh
4. Dialogues
5. Shruti Haasan Glamor

Negatives:

1. Music
2. Second Half
3. Production Values

Analysis:

Katamarayudu is remake of Tamuil hit Veeram. But, script has been altered big time to suit Telugu sensibilities and also to match Pawan Kalyan style. Pawan loves his brothers a lot, but he hates females for a silly reason. His brothers who too behave like they hate girls have girlfriends in their life, but are waiting for Pawan to change his mind on love. The sequences of Pawan with his brothers are hilarious. Then, Pawan starts admiring Shruti Haasan, since she is a classic dancer like his childhood friend. The romantic track in the first half is cute as well as humorous. The way Pawan proposes to Shruti is fresh and sweet.

Then, Shruti gets to see original character of Pawan Kalyan. The train fight episode is good, but graphics work is poor. Movie becomes slow, ever since Pawan and his brothers enter Shruti’s house. Pawan has a tough task ahead. He is in a position to pick one of the two options which both will spoil his relationship with Shruti and her family. Rest of the story is how he handles the situation to settle all matters.

Artists Performances:

Pawan Kalyan is not a big performer like few of his contemporary stars, but he has got ‘something special’ which can’t be described. Whatever he does on the screen will be a treat for fans. The film has several heroism elevation sequences, and Pawan did give complete justice with his style of acting. Dances are okay and fights are one of the major assets. Masses like his makeover of sporting a twirled moustaches and displaying never seen before swag in a dhoti-clad avatar. Shruti Haasan looked traditional in talkie part and glamorous in songs. She didn’t get much to perform. But, the chemistry she shared with Pawan in first half was rocking. Rao Ramesh needs special mention. The way he uttered dialogues in Rayalaseema slang, his dialogue modulation and body language are a treat to watch. The way he explains how to slay Pawan and his brothers show his sadistic nature, but later he brings laughs with his feebleness. He is really a gift to Tollywood. Ali provides some laughs. All bothers are okay. Nassar is good and other artists played their roles effectively.

Technical Aspect:

Akula Siva made enough of changes to script which is a good thing. We never get a feeling that, it is a remake film. Dialogues are one of the biggest assets of the film. Few are witty and few are thought-provoking. Vema Reddy, Sai Madgav Burra and other writing team did their job perfectly, except for screenplay writing for second half. Director Kishore Kumar Pardasani dealt the subject quite efficiently, but he should have worked on second half where the film appeared dry in places. Except for couple of songs, Anup Rubens composed album was pretty average. However, he did decent job when it comes to background score. Prasad Murella’s cinematography is a big asset. He captured action sequences grippingly. Gautham Raju’s editing work was mediocre. Production values are not up to the mark of a Pawan Kalyan starrer film.

Verdict:

Katamarayudu is definitely not a complete entertainer, but it has elements for fans and family audiences to rejoice. Overall, it’s a worth watching in theaters. Since it has ingrediants for all section of audiences, it would do wonders in both class and mass centers.
