Updated : Sep 13, 2016

Popular television comedian Kapil Sharma and acclaimed actor Irrfan Khan have been booked under sections of the Mumbai Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act for alleged illegal extensions. “The case has been registered by BMC officials who have found the two Bollywood personalities and four other society members violating the rules under MRTP Act. During the course of the probe, if required, the two will be called in for questioning,” police said. Kapil had recently made news for tweeting to Narendra Modi about a BMC official demanding bribe from him. Sharma had sparked a controversy last week by alleging that he had been asked to pay a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh by an official of BMC and taking a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the tweet. The civic body, in turn, claimed that the actor had flouted norms in his Versova office building and his apartment in suburban Goregaon.

The case has been registered under section 53 (7) of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP),1966, which relates to prosecuting flat owners for not complying to notices against unauthorized constructions and could lead to a imprisonment of a period from one month to three years or a fine of Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000. Illegal alterations such as elevation features, changes in ducts, voids, common passages and construction of part podiums for parking were carried out said the reports.
