With more filmmakers creating larger-than-life characters and films for the Indian audience, a slew of filmmakers and actors are finding their way into mythology-based scripts.

And for Indians, the epic mythology Mahabharat holds a special place in their hearts, acting as a source of pride and respect.

The Indian mythology epic Mahabharat explores the conflict between right and wrong as the Kauravas and the Paavas fight a war in ancient India's Kurukshetra.

One such epic will soon be created as multi season series. A slew of filmmakers and producers are bringing legendary and lore characters to the big screen. Disney+ Hotstar has announced what could be the largest project in the Indian OTT space to date. 

Speaking at the D23 Expo, an annual fan event in Anaheim, California, Gaurav Banerjee, head of content and development explained how big Disney+ Hotstar plans to take the story of Mahabharata global, “It’s an incredibly powerful epic story. It will have great action; we want to do justice for the depth of this story that is inherently there in Mahabharata. It’s indebted to our culture that makes it exciting and we want to go global with it. We want to create something that travels.”  

“The greatest epic ever written- retold at a scale never seen before! Stay tuned for an ethereal spectacle- #Mahabharat, is coming soon.” Disney+ Hotstar tweeted earlier today.

They even shared a few concept art snaps from the Mahabharata series, in which they appear ecstatic. The images appear to be grand scale concept posters. This appears to be one of, if not the, largest projects in the Indian OTT space.
