Updated : Apr 4, 2017

Victory Venkatesh’s sports drama film Guru released last Friday has been doing exceptional business in Telugu states, but its performance overseas has been below par so far. Films like Guru are expected to do well in the overseas market as such wonderful films appeal to the audiences overseas. However, Guru shocked trade pundits by collecting only $139K in its first weekend, which is very poor considering its genre and the positive word of mouth.

Guru overseas rights were bought for Rs. 1.5 crore. In order to become safe venture for buyers, Guru should collect minimum of half million dollars. What’s the reason for Guru getting lukewarm response in overseas?

Guru is not a straight film. It is remake of Tamil and Hindi bilingual Saala Khadoos which both did decent business in overseas. Since overseas spectators had already watched original versions, they aren’t keen on watching the Telugu version.
