Veteran producer and former Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Pahlaj Nihalani passed away at the age of 76 on Thursday following health-related complications. His demise marks the end of a long and influential association with Hindi cinema spanning several decades.

Nihalani made his mark as a producer during the commercial cinema boom of the 1980s and 1990s, backing several successful films and becoming a well-known figure in the industry. Over the years, he remained active across production and distribution while maintaining a strong presence in film circles.

Apart from filmmaking, Nihalani gained nationwide attention during his tenure as CBFC chairman between 2015 and 2017. His term often made headlines due to his strict certification decisions and sparked frequent debates around censorship and creative freedom in Indian cinema.

According to reports, he had been undergoing treatment for health complications in Mumbai. Industry colleagues and well-wishers have begun paying tribute to the veteran filmmaker and remembering his contribution to Indian cinema.
