Analysis:
Director Harish Shankar picked a regular and formulaic story for Allu Arjun. In fact, starting portions of the film were really well with portraying Duvvada Jagannadam’s character from his childhood. How an anguish Brahmin reacts when he observes crime in the society from very close? When childhood Jagannadham comes to Hyderabad on a work, he watches goons trying to kill a police officer. Then, this young lad kills all the goons and saves the cop. This sequence which elevates the character is shown precisely. Then, he continues to wind up criminals as DJ. These episodes were presented proficiently in first song. Meanwhile, DJ falls in love with the gorgeous Pooja who wishes to marry a rich guy. The romantic track would gratify youth. Story takes new turn with a big scam is exposed. Now, DJ is in a situation to crack the anonymous person who is behind this 9000 Cr scam. Though story was good until here, the process of DJ trying to find out villain’s identity wasn’t convincing. Much worse thing is Harish’s idea of ending the movie in lighter vein which went terribly wrong.
Artists Performances:
Allu Arjun is one of the finest actors in Tollywood and there’s no doubt in this. Nonetheless, he failed to play the role of a Brahmin guy efficiently. Though his body language was perfect, problem was actually with his slang. He couldn’t ably utter the lines in Brahmin diction. Keeping this flaw aside, Allu Arjun was damn good. He was exceptionally well in emotional and key sequences. Actress Pooja Hegde is a real treat to watch. The damsel oozed enough of oomph has even wore bikini to please masses. She was delightful in glamorous and trendy outfits. Coming to acting, Pooja Hegde gave decent performance. Rao Ramesh is a true gift for Tollywood. He can play any given role with excellence. Ramesh portrayed the role which replicates his dad Rao Gopal Rao’s role in Aa Okkati Adakku impeccably. Vennela Kishore and Subbaraj provided laughs. Murali Sharma and Tanikella Bharani were good. Other artists were decent.
Technical Aspect:
Harish Shankar penned a commercial subject which deals with one of the biggest scams in Andhra Pradesh. The film indeed doesn’t have any fresh scenes, though it came out entertaining due to his witty writing. Harish Shankar penned few hilarious dialogues. Devi Sri Prasad provided wonderful tunes and background score too is enchanting. Ayanka Bose’s cinematography was brilliant. Editor Chota K Prasad should have chopped off few scenes in second half. Production values of Sri Venkateswara Creations are good.
Verdict:
DJ is a regular and commercial cinema. The film may please Allu Arjun fans and mass movie lovers. But, normal audiences may not enjoy this. Overall, the movie may become an above average grosser at box office as it has elements for one section of audiences.
