Gemini Ganesan played an important part in all time legendary actress Savithri’s personal and professional lives. While many believe that Savithri was deeply in love with Gemini Ganesan and they both were married, there is none to confirm it. 

Whatsoever, director Nag Ashwin reportedly selected Dulquer Salmaan to play Gemini Ganesan role in Savithri’s biopic Mahanati. This will be an important and full length character to play with Keerthi Suresh in title role. Samantha is also in for a journalist character who investigates on Savithri’s greatness.

Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema are jointly producing Mahanati in three languages viz. Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Dulquer Salmaan is star in Kerala. His presence in Mahanati makes it commercially exploitable in South.
