Updated : Dec 27, 2016

Tamil director Suraaj during his latest outing Kaththi Sandai (Okkadochadu in Telugu) promotional event made objectionable remarks on actresses. He said, “Men don’t pay money to watch actresses who are fully dressed. Since actresses take crores of rupees they should be willing to wear anything that the director asks them to. I ask my costume designers to keep the costume above the actress’ knee in my movies.”

Tamannah responded strongly to Suraaj’s sexist remarks on women. “I’m very hurt and angered by the comments made by my director Suraaj and I definitely want him to apologise not only to me but to all the women in the industry. We are actors and we are here to act and entertain the audiences and should not at any point be objectified as commodities,” stated Tammu. Co-star Vishal and few other South actors supported Tamannah in the issue.

Finally, Suraaj apologized to the actress through a statement released to the press. “I am really sorry and would like to apologise to Ms Tamannah and all the heroines in the industry. My intention was not to show anyone in bad light or hurt their sentiments. I am sorry once again and take back my comments,” said Suraaj.
