Nenu Sailaja was the first super hit movie of 2016. Hero Ram was left anguished over a TV channel's bad review of the film, and could not stop himself from expressing his disappointment over the alleged propaganda. The channel later fired its employee, who is Ram’s fan, for supporting the film.
Stylish Star Allu Arjun during Sarrainodu success meet refused to make a reference to Pawan Kalyan, when power star fans shouted to do so. His words ‘Cheppanu Brother’ evoked uproar and Pawan fans trolled the ‘Bunny’ actor in social media. Later, Allu Arjun tried to clarify on his remarks at Oka Manasu audio launch event. However, things haven’t settled down yet as Pawan fans are disrupting Bunny at all public events.
Sai Dharam Tej began his speech at Thikka audio launch with Aapalenu Brother statement, when Pawan fans were yelling their star’s name as usual. Tej joined with Mega fans and showed his love and affection towards Mega brothers. Some reported SDT’s statement as counter to Allu Arjun!
Director Trivikram Srinivas was criticized for not giving due credit for popular novelist Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani whose novel Meena’s story was adopted to make A Aa. Though Trivikram clarified that it was technical issue, his detractors weren’t convinced.
Versatile actor Prakash Raj blamed Telugu audience for the failure of his last directorial Mana Oori Ramayanam. ‘Look at Tamil, Kannada, Bengal and Malayalam audience; they show a duty and responsibility to preserve good cinema welcoming new concepts. Somehow, the same section is at minority proportion in Telugu. I want Telugu viewers to be aggressive and promote good films,’ said Prakash Raj in an interview.
A police complaint was lodged against Nandamuri Balakrishna for allegedly passing ‘vulgar’ comments against women at a movie function. "If I play eve-teasing roles, and just follow girls, my fans will not accept. Either a kiss should be given or they should be made pregnant. That's all. We have to commit ourselves," said Balakrishna during the event. Balakrishna's remarks had gone viral on the internet and drew flak from the online fraternity as well. He made this comment in the presence of two female actors, who looked shocked and embarrassed during the course of his speech in the function.
During the same event, comedian Srinivas Reddy commented on actress Trisha’s tattoo which was inked on her chest saying, "I've said many times that Trisha is my favourite heroine. More than her, I like her tattoo very much". This comment surprised everyone at the event.
Senior actor Mohan Babu slammed the team of Edo Rakam Ado Rakam for what he described as inappropriate behavior. Hero Raj Tarun, director G Nageswar Reddy and writer Diamond Ratnam asked the film’s heroine Sonarika Bhadoria to hug them at the film’s audio launch event. Mohan Babu also cautioned Rajendra Prasad too for his comments of ‘heroine looks like his wife’.
Recently, Tamil director made sexist remarks on his Okkadochchadu heroine Tamannah Bhatia while discussing about her costumes in the film. When he faced ire of several south actors over his remarks, he posted apology to Tamannah as well as all the female actors in the industry.
