Balachander Dadasaheb Phalke Award: Veteran filmmaker K Balachander is to receive the country’s highest honor in cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for 2010. This Dadasaheb Phalke Award was conferred to Balachander by the Central Government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema.

Balachander's Dadasaheb Phalke Award consists of a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs one million, and a shawl. The award is given on the recommendations of a committee of eminent persons, and will be presented by the President along with the National Film Awards for 2010 some time next month. Balachander has been film director, screenplay writer and producer over the last four decades. He has written, directed and produced more than 100 films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.
