Updated : May 29, 2026

A legal battle has erupted in Bollywood as producer Vashu Bhagnani's Puja Entertainment has approached the Bombay High Court with a whopping Rs 400 crore lawsuit against Tips Industries, its promoters Ramesh and Kumar Taurani, and filmmaker David Dhawan.

The dispute centers around the alleged unauthorized use of two popular songs from the 1999 hit film Biwi No. 1 — "Chunnari Chunnari" and "Ishq Sona Hai." The songs have reportedly been recreated for Varun Dhawan's upcoming entertainer Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.

According to Puja Entertainment, Tips Industries only owns the audio rights to the original tracks and does not have the authority to recreate or commercially exploit them without proper permissions. The production house has sought an immediate stay on the film's release, promotional activities, and streaming plans. It has also objected to the film's title, claiming it is derived from lyrics associated with one of the disputed songs.

Apart from the Rs 400 crore lawsuit, Puja Entertainment has reportedly demanded an additional Rs 100 crore in damages if the songs are not removed from the film and its promotional material. Responding to the allegations, Tips Industries has dismissed the claims as baseless, asserting that it is the rightful and lawful owner of the music rights in question. Meanwhile, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan, is currently scheduled to release in theatres on June 5. The outcome of the legal proceedings could now play a crucial role in the film's journey to the big screen.
