The ongoing legal dispute between producer Vashu Bhagnani, Tips Films, and the Dhawan family has intensified just as the promotional campaign for the upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai kicks off. The tension revolves around Bhagnani's claims that the new film illegally uses the songs "Chunari Chunari" and "Ishq Sona Hai" from his 1999 hit Biwi No. 1, along with allegations of narrative similarities.

Despite the friction, the film's trailer launch proceeded successfully on May 23 in Mumbai, attended by stars Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur, alongside director David Dhawan and producer Ramesh Taurani. During the event, Taurani addressed the legal situation directly, assuring the press that the sub-judice matter is being handled and stating, "There's no problem at all."
