Updated : May 14, 2026

Suriya's highly anticipated action drama, "Karuppu," directed by RJ Balaji, faced an unexpected hurdle right before its worldwide release on May 14. Fans were thrilled to see Suriya reunite with Trisha Krishnan after many years, and the strong advance bookings reflected that immense excitement.

The Tamil Nadu government even granted special permission for 9 AM shows to accommodate the huge demand. However, just hours before the first screenings, a sudden cancellation of these morning shows left thousands of fans disappointed and confused.

The delay reportedly stems from unresolved financial issues involving the production company. As theatres paused ticket sales and cancelled early shows, producer SR Prabhu took to social media to officially apologize, citing unavoidable reasons for the sudden change.

A few reports are now suggesting that the makers are pushing hard to clear these hurdles and are aiming for a late evening or night show release today itself. They are reportedly desperate to avoid any further delays, as pushing the theatrical release to another date could seriously jeopardize their lucrative OTT streaming deal.

Despite the tense situation, director RJ Balaji shared an emotional message to calm the storm. He acknowledged the long 32-month journey filled with obstacles and expressed unwavering faith that the film would overcome this final barrier. Fans are abusing the producers and asking Suriya to never give dates to his family members - KE Gnanavelraja and SR Prabhu, as they have done unparalleled damage to his star status with Kanguva and now, Karuppu delays.

Well, with such backlash and hanging knife of OTT deals, theatrical rights issues, the makers cannot handle further delays and they need to release the movie in this week, by hook or crook!
