Jana Nayagan makers change distribution plan before release

Jul 6, 2026 5:33PM

Finally, after an eight-month-long wait, CM Vijay's Jana Nayagan appears to be heading towards its theatrical release. According to industry reports, KVN Productions recently held discussions with Tamil Nadu distributors and informed them that the makers are targeting July 23 as the film's release date, subject to the completion of the remaining CBFC formalities.

During the meeting, distributors reportedly requested the producers to bear the interest rates charged by private financiers due to the prolonged delay. However, the KVN team is said to have maintained that they would compensate only at prevailing bank interest rates and not the higher financier rates. Sources add that the producers also told distributors that those unwilling to accept the revised terms could instead take back their original investment and opt out of releasing the film.

The makers have also reportedly restructured the business model. Instead of proceeding with a Minimum Guarantee (MG) deal, KVN Productions is said to have opted for a distribution model, offering distributors an 8% commission. Consequently, the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights, earlier valued at around Rs.103 crore, have reportedly been revised to nearly Rs.90 crore.

To reassure distributors, KVN Productions has also reportedly promised that any losses incurred on Jana Nayagan would be compensated through the theatrical rights of Toxic, starring Yash.

These developments indicate that the film's long-pending censor issues have finally been resolved. Reports suggest that Jana Nayagan has been awarded an 'A' certificate, with the makers deciding not to pursue any further battle after portions of the film were allegedly leaked online. An official release date announcement is expected once the physical certificate is received from the CBFC.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Thalapathy Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film has also been widely reported to be the remake of Bhagavanth Kesari.

If the film indeed arrives on July 23, it will finally conclude an eight-month struggle that began in December and cost it a Pongal release. More importantly, with Vijay already transistioning into full-time politics after this film, Jana Nayagan is expected to become one of the biggest celebrations of his career, drawing not just fans but general audiences eager to witness his final outing on the big screen.
