Today in AP, every music patron is familiar with the name 'Chakri'. Chakradhar Gilla, fondly called Chakri was born in a lower middle class family on the 15th of June, 1974. His father, Venkata Narayana was the head of a high school and mother Smt Vidyavati, a homemaker. Chakri's father, a stage artist and singer, inculcated musical interest in his early years. He began early training in playing violin and flute in Warangal. Like any other struggling artist, Chakri came to Hyderabad in the year 1995 with high hopes to make it big in the movie industry. However, he went through a lot of toil with little help from family and friends. Chakri started his musical journey with private albums. His first album was 'Panduvennala'. An album made on Megastar Chiranjeevi got him into spotlight and he got his first break. By then he had already composed 50-60 private music albums. In 1999, Chakri met Puri Jagannath who was making his first movie 'Bachi'. Chakri was the music director for this film.He was awarded with Fimfare for best playback singer. He is a recipient of two Santosham awards, two Ghantasala awards for the years 2006 and 2007.He also won two Ugadi Puraskar awards from Delhi for the years 2004 and 2005.
