Shah Rukh Khan has received major legal relief after the Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging the approvals granted for the renovation and expansion of his iconic Mumbai residence, Mannat. The verdict clears the way for the actor and his wife Gauri Khan to proceed with the planned renovation, including the addition of two floors to the property's annexe building. 

The petition had questioned the statutory approvals and alleged that the project violated environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms. However, the Supreme Court declined to interfere, observing that homeowners are free to renovate their residences as long as they comply with the law. During the hearing, the bench also questioned the intent behind the petition and refused the request to send the matter back to the National Green Tribunal (NGT). 

The legal challenge dates back to 2025, when an appeal was filed against the CRZ clearance granted by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority for the renovation project. The NGT had already dismissed that appeal, ruling that the required environmental approvals were in place and that the project complied with the applicable regulations. The Supreme Court's latest order effectively upholds that decision. 

With the apex court refusing to entertain the challenge, the renovation work at Mannat is now expected to continue without further legal hurdles. The landmark Bandra residence, one of India's most recognisable celebrity homes, has long been a tourist attraction for Shah Rukh Khan's fans, and the expansion project can now move ahead following the Supreme Court's clearance.
