Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja is one of the biggest mass heroes of Telugu Cinema and he has a huge mass appeal like no other. But his recent films have been facing disaster results at the box office and many are hoping his 75th film, Mass Jathara, would be his big comeback. Writer Bhanu Bhogavarapu has become a director with the film and Naga Vamsi produced it. Can Ravi Teja repeat Dhamaka magic with Sreeleela, Bheems for company? Let's discuss in detail.
Plot:
Lakshman Bheri (Ravi Teja) is a Railway Police Force SI, but he doesn't tolerate any sort of crime in his vicinity, be it anyone's jursidiction. He is transfered to Adavipuram, where smuggling of Sheelavathi, a form of cannabi, is rampant. Smuggling group head Shivudu (Naveen Chandra) is fierce and has connections throughout the department and government to safeguard him. Lakshman starts to take action against him but entire Police department, Forest department and others stop him.
Meanwhile, he is not getting married and his grand father (Rajendra Prasad) spoils all the matches. Lakshman sends him away to an oldage home as he fears Adavipuram would be unsafe. He meets a school teacher (Sreeleela) and her father headmaster (Naresh). He falls in love with her but gets to know that she is also a ganja peddler. Looking at how deeply Shivudu's network is infested in the area and his connections with Pathro, Lakshman starts to take matters in his style. What does he do? How did he end Shivudu's drug empire? Watch the movie in theatres to know more.
Analysis :
Ravi Teja is energetic and asusual at his best in action scenes, dance moves. He gives everything to the role and tries to carry the film on his shoulders. But the script is too old school with nothing really interesting added to the mix. The screenplay filled with formulaic action sequences, comedy, romance just feels too dated and jaded. The energy doesn't translate on to the screen and it feels completely disengaging.
Even Ravi Teja is unable to really lift the sequences over the mediocre level after a point. Sreeleela has been given a character with some novelty to her previous roles, still, it doesn't leave any impact. Further the comedy scenes in the movie are not paced properly and they just seem too draggy. Such ideas need even better writing but the makers seem to have rushed a few scenes or re-written them too many times as they lack the spark.
Naveen Chandra's performance, Rajendra Prasad character and the twist it takes all seem to have been planned with other films in mind rather than seriously having a proper intent to bring it in the screenplay. Hence, they seem to have forced aggression and forced twists at many places. Krack had few good blocks that really made everyone in theatre genuinely gasp but in trying to deliver something similar, Mass Jathara makers could not really plant them in the same manner.
Back Ground Music by Bheems Ceciroleo is too loud and nothing really fits the scenes as well. It seems like he is trying to amp up beats rather than fitting to the scene. Technically, cinematography also looks jaded as screen doesn't look lively at any place. The dark tone did not really suit the scenes as much as makers thought it would. Even the editing is jerky at places but overall it is fine job by Navin Nooli.
Production values are good enough but director Bhanu Bhogavarapu could not really bring his vision on paper to the screen. It feels so, as the ideas seem, even though seem to be highly inspired from many other mass films, does have potential to make mass audiences go crazy but none of them really shine. Even the pacing and over dependence on callbacks and famous meme punchlines all point out to a team that tried to mix everything believing that would work. Mass Jathara ends up being a disappointment as it is too outdated with very few sparks.
TeluguOne Perspective :
Ravi Teja tries hard but film disappoints with its too outdated narrative.
