Telugu Cinema has been trying different sort of stories and several off-beat films have also been getting made with big producers helping out Indepedent producers. Mythri Movie Makers have decided to help release Gandhi Tatha Chettu, which has Sukriti Veni, daughter of director Sukumar, in the leading role. The movie has gone to several film festivals and finally, released on 24th January. Let's discuss about the film in detail.

Plot:

In a village in Telangana, Ramachandraiah, a big believer in Mahatma Gandhi's principles, names his grand daughter as Gandhi(Sukriti Veni). On his death bed, he takes an oath from her. The entire village depends on farming as their main occupation but they slowly start to see that the livelihood is getting tougher with every day. So, they fall into the trap of an agent Satish(Rag Mayur), who works for an industrialist. He convinces everyone to sell off their lands to his boss. Ramachandraiah's principles do not agree for that deal and now, Gandhi has to fight to keep them alive. Watch the movie to know what she did.

Analysis :

Sukriti Veni's performance is very good as Gandhi. Even though this is her first film, she seems to have trained herself very well to play the character. We can see her being the centre of attraction and she doesn't shy away from the burden of carrying it. The writing by filmmaker Padmavathi also assists her in being the young-adult that she is in real life while performing as Gandhi, who is off same age as her. This acts as a huge advantage for her.

Even Anand Chakrapani came up with a good performance instilling his character's belief in Gandhi's principles quite firmly. It is his performance that sets it up for us to follow and relate with young Gandhi's actions. Rag Mayur is fine in major portions, but he is getting a little bit typecast. All others are good for the portions they have been offered.

Film is not made keeping commercial aspects in mind. It doesn't try to deviate away from the story and also it keeps the focus on the social message, only. But the writing at times gets too preachy for a film that has young-adult in a leading role. More convincing scenes about her relationship with her grandfather would have helped the overall impact of the message and movie story, itself.

It works in a sense like a case study about Gandhian philosophies still holding true or not. There is a strong message about people forgetting about the necessity of food and saving our nature for the sake of a future that will ultimately go bleak if we don't preserve nature and our surroundings, today. Padmavathi's ideology works well for the film and even technically it is a decent work from all the team involved. Just the preachy tone in second half slightly makes it a decent watch rather than a one-time must watch.

TeluguOne Perspective :

Performances and message work in favor of Gandhi!
