A hot debate has begun in the film industry with two big directors, who takes an awesome pay packs but delivered dud films at the end. They are directors Lawrence Raghavendra and Mani Ratnam. Everyone knows how their films ‘Rebel’ and ‘Kadali’ have miserably failed at box office.

Lawrence not only delivered a dud but also makes his producers J.Pulla rao and Bhagawan cry with crossing all the pre-set limits of the budget of the film, by taking his own time in completing the film. Yet, the film was failed to get minimum returns to the producers.

Hence, they have lodged a complaint against him with Producers’ Council, which in return asked Lawrence to refund Rs.2.5 crores to producers as compensation. But, even after two months he didn’t respond to their orders. So, they have decided to take action against him soon.

Director Mani Ratnam, who always has his word final in making the films, also delivers a dud film ‘Kadal’, which was dubbed and released in Telugu as ‘Kadali.’ Both the versions of the films proved to be disasters to the producers and to film distributors. So, the film distributors in Chennai hit the streets demanding compensation for the losses. They have staged protests in front of Mani Ratnam’s house at Adayar in Chennai on Saturday evening.

Both these incidents proves that the directors who take away an attractive pay packs can’t be allowed to escape free from their responsibilities of ensuring minimum guarantee to their films. The producers and distributors demand them to be accountable for the losses occurred due to their inefficiency.
