A Saintly Story

A Saintly Story...

I was recovering from six hour by pass surgery, after two days of keeping in I.C.U, i have been shifted to a room with all the tubes protruding from my body.

Along with me, there was another patient in the room , but we were separated by a screen to give privacy for both. After two days the gentleman from other side of the screen introduced himself and he told his name as Sadanada.

In the room there was only one window opened to outside worls and his cot was near to the window.

Daily he used to tell what was happening outside in the world. His melodious voice and the the way he describes the scenes what he was seeing outside, was really captivating and absorbing.I never felt bowhite lying on the couch all day.

It was March, spring time and his description about the beautiful floweres ,the chirping colorful birds, and noisy children playing in the park outside was really like a picture playing in my mind .

Enjoyed every moment of his description, but felt a little envy of him as his cot was near to the big beautiful window which opened to marvellous outside world.

Nevertheless i was enjoying every moment of his wonderful narration what was happening out side. One day when i woke up in the morning, the usual ‘Good Morning’ wish from the other side of the screen was missing.

I heard as if some one was making bed there.I did not hear the melodious voice of my friend , Sadanada.

I asked the nurse who came from otherside that what happened to him. She with a sad face told that he died in his sleep in the night. I was shocked and my heart felt heavy with sadness.

I have lost a good friend.I asked nurse what was his problem. She told,”He was suffering from colon cancer, it was in terminal stage!”

Shocked to the core! inspite, he used to appear happy and wonderful! Then i requested the nurse to shift my cot near to the window sothat i can spend time looking out of it! My cot was shifted nearer to the window!

The window was closed. I opened the window doors expecting to see a beautiful park with colorful flowers as described all the time by Sadananda but what i saw frozen me and made me speechlesss..Simply aghast! What i saw was a wall of a tall building.

The view was blank wall. I asked the nurse who came into the room,” sister, nothing i can see from this window! how is that Sadanada was describing all the time what was seeing outside window.

The nurse surprised and told,”Sir, He was totally blind! How could he see and tell?” I felt as if i was struck by a thunder! He was blind, terminal cancer patient, but still he tried to make me happy with his sonorous voice.

He was besides a friend, he was really a SAINT, in true sense.
