Do not brush your teeth at least till 30 minutes after you have had your food. Just after you have eating something the pH-level in your mouth is lower than normal, and more acidic, so brushing can be very abrasive and harmful. So brushing your teeth immediately after eating food can be damaging for your teeth.

 

The amount of time you brush also makes a lot of difference. The average person’s brushing time is only 45 seconds. While anything shorter than 2 minutes doesn’t give the fluoride in your toothpaste enough time to attach to the enamel in your tooth enamel. Researchers say that over brushing teeth too can cause sensitivity. Brushing teeth is brilliant but not for too long is what researchers say. Experts recommend brushing for not more than two-three minutes as over brushing teeth can cause sensitivity.

 

Go for soft or extra soft bristles. If the bristles are too stiff they can hurt your gums. Brushes with medium or hard bristles used with some force can remove the protective enamel coating your teeth. This results in sensitive teeth and gums that hurt when you drink something cold. Experts recommend changing your brush every three to four months, as the bristles become frayed and less effective, and the brush can gather bacteria on the brush and handle.

 

Never leave your tooth brush in the restroom after you are done with brushing your teeth. Majorly for hygiene purposes. Consider storing your toothbrush someplace other than your bathroom as when you flush your toilet the contents of your toilet bowl are sprayed in all directions. So its always recommended that you assign a place specifically for your toothbrush in the house and make sure that the place is clear of any dust. And also clean the brush everyday before you start brushing. Although your toothbrush looks clean after you have finished brushing, bacteria that can cause bad breath and cavities can grow on the brush. Rinse the brush when you’ve finished to help remove the harmful bacteria.

 

It’s good to brush your teeth properly but do not get carried away. Brushing more than three times a day might not be ideal say experts. Over brushing your teeth can cause sensitivity. That's because too much can wear down your teeth's outer shell, called enamel, and damage your gums. Also while brushing be gentle as it doesn’t take a lot of force to remove plaque which is on your teeth.
