The Primitive - Raw Food Diet!!

The diet plan that includes food in its purest form i.e, raw and some times even organic. People following this diet, will find raw fruits,  vegetables, nuts, sprouted seeds, seeds rarely even unpasteurized dairy products, raw eggs, fish and meat as their staples. The main principle is; heating or cooking destroys the nutrients and natural enzymes which might be essential for boosting digestion and fight chronic diseases. The dictum followed is " Food cooked is as good as dead".

Some people believe cooked food becomes toxic and thus is unsuitable for consumption. But the reality is contrary cooking makes the food digestible and also boosts some of the nutrients such as beta-carotene and lycopene besides killing the bacteria making it safe for consumption. While its is claimed to clear up headaches, allergies, boosts immunity and memory also improve arthritis and some disease, sadly none are scientifically proven.

The food is usually cold or warmed up but not beyond 118 Fahrenheit. The food can be made edible by the use of blenders, processors and dehydrators. The prep work that goes into this diet is immense, it requires extensive shopping and  being very choosy. Eating outdoors is yet another challenge.

The cons of this diet are: it require high degree of motivation and grit to follow this difficult diet plan. Some of the nutrient deficiencies are iron, calcium and vitamin B12. When eating raw, the risk of food poisoning is high, thus not advisable for expecting mothers, young children,  elderly, people with weak immune responses, people on steroids and people with chronic medical illnesses such as chronic kidney disease, eating raw may precipitates an acute episode which mag be life threatening.

As this diet promotes the intake of more and more fruits and vegetables, controls hypertension, reduces  the chances of stroke, heart failure, osteoporosis, stomach cancer, kidney diseases, diabetes mellitus type 2 and also aid in weight loss. However, there has been no scientific validation of these pros, but this diet plan helps in leading a healthy lifestyle, which might shield from diseases!!
