Srimanthudu Review Srimanthudu Movie Review Srimanthudu Telugu Movie Review Srimanthudu Rating .....Running high on expectations, Superstar Mahesh is coming up with “Srimanthudu”. As he made it clear that director Koratala Siva impressed him with a message oriented commercial subject, all eyes are on this project from a while. Let us see how it goes.

Cast: Mahesh Babu, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Rajendra Prasad, Sampath and others
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Cinematography: Madhie
Story-Screenplay-Dialogues--Direction: Koratala Siva
Producer: Mythri Movie Makers and Mahesh Babu
Release date: 7th August, 2015

The CONTENT:

Harsha (Mahesh) is son of billionaire contractor Ravikanth (Jagapathi Babu) and he wants to do something for the society unlike his father who breathes money all the time. After falling in love with Charuseela (Shruti), Harsha joins a rural development program on how to develop villages. Meanwhile Sasi (Sampath) and his brother Venkataratnam (Mukesh Rushi) control a village Devarakota, standing as a stumble block for its development and eat away all the fruits. Harsha comes to know that he too hails from the same village, and the whole film shifts to village then. So, what happens after Harsh confronts them, what he does for the village, and he wins over them is the rest of story.

The EFFORT:

On-Screen:

Mahesh Babu looks as dashing as he is. Say it romantic scenes, fights, comic timing or uttering emotional dialogues, he impressed big time again. His handsome looks always give a fresh lease of life to any routine scene. However, when Mahesh is beating goons who are double in size than him, his muscles looked leaner. He would have put some bulk or should have selected less-fatty goons.

Shruti Haasan amuses with her trademark expressions yet again, while her dance moves are subtle and attractive in songs. Being a character that drives the hero, she succeeded in her part. But once movie takes a turn, she’s not very much in the story.

With just 2-3 big scenes to him, if anyone has to pull so much of attention, then its Jagapathi babu only. He looked handsome and rich, while his toned performance looked classy. That’s a terrific show from him yet again.

Rajendra Prasad looked regular because he has done such characters to death already. Others like Vennela Kishore, Ali, Sukanya, Subbaraju, Mukesh Rushi are regular. Sampath proved that he has stamina to engineer superb villainy but it looks repeated.

Off-Screen:

Koratala Siva tried to deliver message this time, but he has come up with nice commercial setup around it, though routine. He extracted good performances from actors, nice visuals from cinematographer. However the screenplay that was seen in “Mirchi” is missing in “Srimanthudu”, while the story itself looks quite predictable. Dialogues about family are  heart touching but that’s truly a overdose as the film reaches conclusion.

Cinematographer Madhie’s visuals are top notch and the way he shot Charuseela and Jata Kalise songs is fantastic. At the same time Devi Sri Prasad wooed with songs and background score. But that pep in missing from him in the second half.

Rest of the technicians have excelled in their respective work.

The PLUSES:

    Mahesh Babu
    First Half
Dialogues about family in 2-3 scenes

The MINUSES:

    Predictable second half
    Simple story and mediocre climax
    Slow pace of the film

BREAKDOWN:

Koratala Siva has connected well with the point that if billionaires adopt their native place, every village will spring to happiness. However he hasn’t done enough research on these rural development programs except showing road-laying and school-construction.

Film starts with a bang as Ravikanth (Jagapathi Babu) makes his entry as a billionaire. And then Harsha (Mahesh) enters simply, but stylishly. After all the introductions, Harsha falls for Charuseela (Shruti) and all these scenes look routine. Later he joins a rural development program, which looks like he joined only to win heroine’s heart. But as the scene shuffles between village and city, the graph too triggers excitement. In the mean time, Harsha confronts a central minister Venkataratnam and his son, while at village he will be awaited by another villain, Sampath. First half of the movie ends cool as Harsha decides to relocate to village.

As the interval ends, movie opens high with Harsha researching heavily on how to develop the village. As the Srimanthudu title song is used in the background score, it brings lot of intensity. Each and every scene lays emphasis on family values, morals and doing something for the others. However it looks saturated and routine at one point, as director lost grip on the plot. Harsha gets stopped by goons, first the low-level chamchas confront him, then their bosses and then the big boss— a routine mass movie fare, with nothing intuitive. As the movie heads for pre-climax, graph falls much lower as predictability hits from every angle. However if the confrontation scenes are good, then there would have been hair rising feeling, but they too sound plane jane. And climax? That’s mediocre for a Mahesh Babu film. Logic-less ending in typical 90s style.

Srimanthudu is another Lingaa, running on similar lines in a contemporary setup. A billionaire hero wants to donate all his father’s hard earned money for a cause. Then it’s dam, now its village. Here Mahesh preaches a lot about need for large-families and villages. But the whole film sounded like a documentary as Koratala Siva hasn’t researched much on real poverty, death of villages and ways to revive the rural glory. He has stuck to Mahesh’s handsomeness in most scenes than carrying the story in a newer way. Probably its intentional to try a subtle style of delivering message, but the message is not big enough to reach the masses. Missed logics, not-so-depth analysis of the village-situation, heavy preaching and over-powering the powerful looks hurdles for the film’s success at box office. It depends on how B & C centres audiences receive the movie, while A centres may like it 50-50 only.

Final words: Rich Srimanthudu, but slow and regular!!

Rating: 2.75/5
