Analysis:

Film starts with a budding journalist making efforts to know complete life of legendary actress Savitri to write a story on her in a daily she's working for. She has a boyfriend Vijay Deverakonda who's also a journalist. The journalists duo starts investigation and in the process they get to know almost every detail about Savitri from her childhood. Thre are many episodes in the film which you will remember forever like how Telugus remember Mahanati everlastingly. After her father's death, Savitri and her mother takes shelter at her uncle (played by Rajendra Prasad) house. She learns Bharatanatyam and performs on stages. When response for stage shows is minimal, Rajendra Prasad decides to make her heroine. Their struggles in Chennai and Savitri's friendship and love with Gemini Ganesan are rightly shown. The post marriage episodes are also convincing. How Ganesan becomes egoistic and how this badly affects Savitri's personal life? Director Nag Ashwin has done tremandous work in showing ups and downs in Savitri who dies after months of being in a coma. Samantha makes everyone emotional with her emotive performance in pre-climax episode. Except for love track between Vijay and Samantha, almost every bit in the film is entertaining.

Artists Performances:

Keerthy Suresh has done her job aptly. She aptly suited the role of Savitri. She in fact lived in the character. Keerthy recalled many memories Telugus have with Savitri gaaru. She is extraordinary in key scenes. Dulquer Salmaan is also exceptional as Gemini Ganesan. You will fall to him charm in beginning episodes, whereas you start hating him when he exposes egoistic side of him. Samantha is equally good as journo and she is well supported by Vijay Deverakonda. Samantha was unbelievable in pre-climax episode. Rajendra Prasad and Prakash Raj are big assets of the film. Tanikella Bharani is good. Bhanupriya, Malavika Nair, Shalini Pandey and Tulasi are good. Other artists played their roles effortlessly.

Technical Aspect:

Director Nag Ashwin's admiration for Savitri can be seen in each and every frame. Apparently, he has done wide research to give audience full info about Savitri. Nag Ashwin took extreme care about screenplay. His direction is also superior. Cinematography by Dani Sanchez-Lopez worths a special mention. Music director Mickey J Meyer provided wonderful tunes and his work on background score is also laudable. Editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is other big highlight. Production values of Swapna Cinema are top notch.

Verdict:

Mahanati is definitely a worth watching film in theaters. Don't miss this one.
