Kanche Telugu Movie Review Kanche Movie Review...From a time, the world war based visuals of "Kanche" movie are intriguing Telugu audiences. Given the past record of Krish's artistic films, the film is running high on expectations. And hero Varun Tej hailing from mega family, the craze is little high. Let's see how the movie is.

The CONTENT:

Way back in 1936, Dhupati Haribabu (Varun Tej) hails from a village in Andhra Pradesh who is pursuing Degree at Madras Patnam. He meets Zamindar's heiress Seeta Devi (Pragya Jaiswal) there. The two fall in love and wants to get married. At the same time, Seeta's brother Eshwar (Niktin Dheer) says no to the marriage as Hari hails from a lower caste. That's one story. In another time, Haribabu happens to be Captain of 16th Battalion Indian soldiers fighting for British Empire against German red army. As Hari camps in Italy, Eeshwar happens to be his commanding officer who is taken by German soldiers. What happens in this camp? And what happened to Hari Babu and his love at their village is another story.

The EFFORT:

On-Screen:

Varun Tej looks promising. His body language and dialogue delivery style are impressive. However, he has to improve in terms of acting as certain expressions became monotonous in his presence.

Pragya Jaiswal looked princely and her acting is also good. She provided the much needed glamorous relief too albeit rather decently. Niktin Dheer as a villain has good screen presence. Avasarala Srinivas is the show stealer for his comedy. Gollapudii Maruthi Rao and Shavukaru Janaki are adequate.

Off-Screen:

Director Krish has come up with another interesting plot this time. He picked up the way people have taken caste-system into blood and compared it with Hitler and his atrocities. His back and forth narration about two independent stories that have the same connection is excellent. However, he should have written more gripping and intense narrative, as the graph weakened in second hour.

Dialogues written by Sai Madhav Burra are the main asset for this "Kanche" which has a lot of philosophical and social touch. His take on love, women, war and castes is superb. Unlike the punch dialogues, his depth-laced meaningful sentences will make crowds cheer.

Music composed by Chirantan Bhatt is good, while background score is terrific at parts. At some places, he should have come up with more instrumental stuff rather stuffing Sirivennela Seetarama Sastry's poetry. Cinematography by Gnana Sekhar, art by Sahi Suresh are stunning. Especially every single frame looked as if the film was shot in 1936 only.

The PLUSES:

Story in World War backdrop

Underlying message to abolish castes

Varun Tej

Few scenes in war and love

The MINUSES:

Little slow at times

Predictable 2nd half and climax

BREAKDOWN:

We can't look at each film as the same commercial entertainer. Despite having good commercial elements, Krish always tries to stuff message and some social themes in his films. He did it again, this time comparing caste system with the mindset of Adolf Hitler.

As the film starts in World War II backdrop, Varun Tej starts narrating us the story. Though there are lot of philosophies, too much moral policing and unlimited mind-washing from his character, the cool and calm portrayal of Dhupati Haribabu character by this mega hero is impressive. Within a limited setup, Krish portrayed how Germans cheated enemies, how local people helped Indian soldiers. Within this frame he narrates in parallel about Hari and Seeta's beautiful love story. How caste system has sprang troubles all the time and how people always fought for castes as if it has something to do with blood is what Krish explains. As the plot at World War and village gets unravelled, it's an interesting intermission that stops the flow.

Second half turned little predictable, though the narrative is very interesting and enjoyable. Amidst the comedy of Srinivas Avasarala as a lazy soldier, and the fast paced content of village where some high octane action happens, the film looks very emotional and patriotic. As the film proceeds towards pre-climax, maybe 50% of audiences would guess what will happen to story. Because we are watching Krish's movies from a time. While climax looks little forced and predictable, it's a nice emotional feeling in the end that makes heart little heavy. The film remains as an unforgettable memory, which is impressive.

In first half, there is a scene where a girl saves Indian (British Empire) soldiers from Germans and it gives goose bumps. Similarly in second half, there are couple of good scenes like marriage in village, hero's confrontation with heroine's sister and that 'caste dialogue' gives a high. Though there are commercial shades, Kanche is all about the caste-system fencing that is deep rooted in the minds of Indian society. Amidst those regular masala comedy movies our industry makes, this is definitely a rare gem.

However, success at box office depends on how masses will like the film. In A centres, no doubt the film will register nice collections, but in B & C, audiences need to connect with the message. If everyone loves, then this could be a big hit for Varun Tej and Krish. Else, the film remains a classic, but collections remain under the line.

Final words: Kanche, watch it for society!!

Rating:3/5
