Lassi Ideas for Kids

To teach the little ones to try new foods is a challenge...the babies are best, toddlers are better, but tell me about the preschoolers...one tough batch. Offer a new fruit or a fruit they have eaten well until 3 months ago and suddenly, they dont like it, they are afraid of trying it again....hunting for ways to get the nutritious stuff into their tummys is a tough job for the parents. Unless the child has any lactose intolerance or has the tendency to catch cold when fed yoghurt or buttermilk, Lassis are a good way to encourage them to drink healthy instead of those High Fructose fruit juices from the store.

For just a glass of fruit lassi:

Bring any fresh fruit, like Strawberries, Mango, Banana, cut up into small pieces and measure upto a small cup full

soak dry nuts such as Almonds, Pistachios and Cashews ..3 of each variety , overnight

1/2 cup milk or buttermilk

Elaichi or cinnamon powder

Honey for taste

In a blender, put the soaked dry nuts and blend well to a thick paste by adding milk or water. Now add the fruit pieces and the flavoring powder along with honey if you need more sweetness, remaining milk or buttermilk and blend again. Make sure you blend until the consistensy is like milkshake. And serve immeidately...some fruits tend to change color and kids donot like it. Sprinkle some chocolate powder and they will like it better. It serves as a healthy dessert or even as a breakfast side. During summer months next year, remember to try this as a frozen kulfi.
