Is backwardness a reason for separate state…
Apart from Andhra Pradesh there are other larger states in the country like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Bihar. The persistence of intra-regional imbalance in development within the state has given rise to the demand for separate states. Governments have introduced several programs to redress these disparities, recognizing the legitimacy of these concerns and acknowledging that the solution may vary from one region to another, but things haven’t changed much. The scenario in Andhra Pradesh is different when compared to the above mentioned states.
With the separate state movement in full swing, the politicians are throwing in numbers claiming backwardness of their own region confusing the common man. In this context TeluguOne team gathered some stats from Bureau of Economics and Statistics to bring to our readers the exact numbers pertaining to the various regions of Andhra Pradesh viz. North Andhra (Uttara Kosta), Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana. The same is presented for your inference on the real backwardness of the regions. Readers can go through this data and express their opinion whether bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh is NEEDED or NOT
The Factual Numbers:
Telangana is the most densely populated region probably on account of capital region Hyderabad being in its Telangana territory. The colour codes Blue denotes highest and Red lowest I the table given blow:
| North Andhra | % | Coastal Andhra | % | Rayalseema | % | Telangana | % | |
| Population | 8619183 | 11.31 | 23085909 | 30.29 | 13517644 | 17.74 | 30987271 | 40.66 |

Health Sector
Telangana is the healthier region of the four regions while the figures prove the sorry state of affairs in the Uttara Kosta, even Rayalaseema aren’t faring too well in this sector. Telangana Tops in terms of Hospitals , PHC’s, Beds and Dispensaries. This does not take into account the fact that Hyderabad has the maximum number of corporate hospitals like Apollo, Global, Care, Medwin, Yashoda, etc. and is known as the Health capital of India
| North Andhra | % | Coastal Andhra | % | Rayalseema | % | Telangana | % | |
| Government Hospitals | 44 | 13.02 | 74 | 21.89 | 60 | 17.75 | 160 | 47.34 |

Agriculture Sector and Rainfall
Even in this sector Uttara Kosta is faring very badly though it has abundant rainfall. Rayalaseema records lowest rainfall of all the four territories. Telangana alone accounts for nearly 62% of the agriculture pump sets with a per capita consumption of power accounting to nearly 40% of the states consumption. Which means the rest of the state is bearing the free power subsidy which is mostly consumed in telangana region. Even the per capita domestic consumption of power is the highest in Telangana more than the so called rich Coastal Andhra Region. Telangana accounts to 40% of the Poultry population and 36% of buffalo population, Delta regions of coastal Andhra tops in Buffalo population with 41%.
The migration of farmers nearly Six decades ago mostly from Krishna and Guntur Dt. to Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts have helped in transferring know-how for cultivation of Sugar Cane and Cotton in Telangana regions.
The Rural Economy in India is wholly agriculture based and it is of tremendous importance because it has vital supply and demand links with the other Indian industries. Agriculture is the main stay of the Indian economy, as it constitutes the backbone of rural India which inhabitants more than 70% of total Indian population. Even in this sector where majority of the population is dependent Telangana fares on par or even better than Costal Andhra leaving Rayalaseema and Uttara Kosta far behind.

Revenue and Banking
The gross domestic product (GDP) or gross domestic income (GDI) is a basic measure of a country’s overall economic output. It is the market value of all final goods and services made within the borders of a country in a year. It is often positively correlated with the standard of living, Telangana accounts for nearly 41.13% of the state GDP while Uttara Kosta and Rayalaseema are pegged at 12 and 14% respectively.
Telangana has half of the factories located in its region registered under Factories act of AP, Rayalaseema is the most neglected industrially having less than 10% of the factories. The irony here is most of the factories established in telangana region belong to entrepreneurs from Andhra and other parts of India. While Telangana entrepreneur, cum politician Mr.G.Venkataswamy has his Visaka Industries Ltd. , head quartered in Hyderabad with only one factory in telangana and 8 others in various parts of the country including Coastal Andhra. He seem to have ignored about employment to his own people but raises about against injustice done by the rulers to Telangana probably forgetting that he is also part of the political system..
Even in the Banking sector Telangana grabs major share In this sector too with Uttara Kosta and Rayalaseema faring badly. Deposits in Telangana are over 50% of the entire state deposits, a region which is backward or poor cannot have 50% of the state deposits.
Telangana accounts for nearly 3 quarters of the excise income generated in the state.

Guntur was once known as the education capital of AP, but after the growth of Hyderabad and surroundings, Guntur lost its position. All the major national educational institutes located only in Telangana region to name a few IIT, BITS, NIT, NALSAR, HCU, ISB.
Even in School infrastructure Telangana Tops in all segments and in literacy rate Telangana is very close to Coastal Andhra.

Other Statistics
The other statistics given below also indicate Telangana is faring well compared to the other regions in almost all the areas except for very few. As per the 5th economic census 34.47% of the employees are from Telangana which is in proportion to the 40.66% of the population in Telangana. The indicators cited do not show any glaring difference for Telangana and rest of Andhra Pradesh in terms of the selected variables. Creation of Telangana can be justified on other grounds (geo-economic factors, social differentiation, political considerations) but discrimination in resource allocation and development does not appear to be a plausible explanation. Demand for Telangana state in the recent years has been a political movement rather than a mass movement. The rationale for creating Telangana on the grounds of backwardness is neither credible nor convincing looking at the facts presented above. Readers are welcome to express their valuable opinions in this regard.

thanks for the person who published this article. it is nice but why donot publish the political statictics. hwo many politicians were on the top positions from all the 3 regions. for the last 2 decades i can see cheif ministers from rayalaseema only execept Nedurumalli janardan reddy for 1 year and Ntr FOR 1 year.at the same time very interestingly the home ministers were all from telangana region.the irigation ministers were also from telangana. we should not forget that the only telugu prime minister from andhra mr PV Narasimha rao is from telangana but was elected from rayalaseema when required. can the people of telangana vote like this.all the rubbish hapening is just for power politics of the telangana region politicians
Many thanks for the wast research and publication, I think we need to exclude the Hyderabad statistics to understand the actual scenario in terms of revenue and development, then every one can easily understand why people from telangana are looking forward for a separate state.pls publish the % of non telengana people in Hyderabad.
Jayanth if you telanganites are ready to leave Hyderabad your suggestion holds good
Thanks for person published this Article. Hope all got good picture of our state development. Our Combind devloped capital is in Telengana. Overnight we can’t loose capital. Also worried about more water resources which KCR openly said he will stop the water and take to Telengana. WE NEED TO KEEP 10 TO 15 YR OF TARGET AND GIVE TG. BEFORE THAT SHOULD DEVELOP TWO MORE CAPITALS IN RAYAL SEEMA AND COASTAL. LIKE HYD IS SUMMER CAPITAL , KURNOOL IS RAINY SEASON CAPITAL, AND SAY GUNTUR IS WINTER CAPITAL AND DEVELOP THE STATE. So after 10/15 yrs after let us divide. In this tenure industries also should establish in this capitals. Also water should control by central. TG guys can you wait please further 10 to 15 yrs?
this statement is extremely wrong. this complete analysis taken as including with hyd. Telangana People not only in hyd. if Hospitals, schools in hyd how to serve telengana people. In hyd 40% people from outside like andhra, rayalseema and 30% of people out side of andhra like other states. every one think about it
Why can’t we think of three capital concept for each region and after developing equally can divide say later 10 yrs.
95% would’ve stopped the fight
I appriciate the person who posted the above stats, and the same time these stats are completely biased because the stats should be 3 regional parts in lieu of 4 however, the first question is how many tmc’c of water is flowing through the Telangana and how much they are utilizing. how many employees are here in the share of total AP. what about the Gentle man pact and 610 GO.? no one answers this question. do you know was there any GO took 25 years to implement.? did there any instances to constuct one canal for 5 decades.? you know Andhra Pradesh is conditional merging on 1956 those conditions have not implemented so far.
If any CM from Telangana then other region region political leaders provocative religious clashes in HYD to occupy the CM post. The space is no enough to write the sorrows of Telagana people.
This article is an eye opening for those politicians who wants their development rather the regional, are doing this moment for separation. This article should be published in news papers & save the lives of young genearations who are supporting the politicians. Government shall also release a white paper regarding the regional development & save the nation even, from the separatist politicians. This separatism purely shows the political joblessness rather regional development.
The Question is “Do we need a separate Telangana State?” – Anyone who is in favor of saying ‘Yes” should consider to answer these questions: (1) What will be the official language of Telangana State? If it is Telugu, then why do we need another state with same official language? (2) If under development of some of the districts is only is the reason, as part of the exising State why not the leaders demand a Backward Districts Development Corporation only for such districts of entire State and get special allocation of funds as well as plans for progress? (3) If separate Telengana is formed what will be the language they will produce movies – Urdu, Telugu or Telangana Telugu? (4) Don’t you think sparateion of Telenagana as State would further create demand for separate for Urdu Speaking areas of Telangana?
Seperate telangana on backwardness is not warranted at all. Telangana developed rapidly now when compated to 1950s. The so called politicians are making a mess of it for their own survival. Even if a seperate state is formed, no politician will work for development of poor. Rich will become richer and poor will become poorer. United Andhra Pradesh will prosper better.
I wonder who built warangal fort and where they came from? And who commanded their armies to victories? Can someone post the answers for me please? I remember someone said that they were settlers too. That too from andhra. How said if that’s true.
backwardness is not only the reason for separation of telangana.some conditions are placed when telangana clubbed in andhra pradesh the governments not followed the conditions..if u observe the above statistics excluding hyderabad u can realise why telangana people wanting separate state.after separation of telangana the official languge is telugu only.the movies also in telugu only no more doubts in that.
