20 Indians sentenced in US for call centre scam

In what is said to be a rarest of the rare legal case, 20 people of Indian origin were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment ranging from four to twenty years. These people will be deported back to India after they complete the jail term. The said judgement was pronounced in a case pertaining to a call centre scam. Culprits in this scam impose themselves as the officials of Taxation or citizenship department. They choose victims who are vulnerable such as elderly ones or immigrants. Then they  threaten the victims that they would land in jail if they don’t remit certain amount of money to a bank account. The amount would be quickly withdrawn and diverted to India. The case has been a blot over the image of Indian Call Centres who are already struggling to survive under the regime of Trump.
