The parents of some students from Bangalore were shocked when they looked into the text book of their children. The text book named ‘Current School Essays and Letters’ by Purabi Chakraborty has a controversial chapter named `Modern Girl’. Well if you are wondering why this chapter has become controversial, have a look at some of the statement mentioned in the chapter- “a modern girl is a self-centred creature than a loving daughter or sympathetic sister... She loves to wear jeans, pants and hot pants. The colourful saree has no place in the modern girl’s stock of garments.”
“She is eager to enjoy life fully and so she does not want to miss any party, cinema show, concert, fashion parades and such outdoor activities. She talks and makes friendship with boys freely and easily.” The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had to step into the scene and issue a warning to the schools to be careful while selecting text books for the students.
