Why did Sarad Pawar woke up for Telangana?

The Nationalist Congress party president and member of UPA alliance, Sarad Pawar, as if woke up from his sleep knocks PM Dr.Manmohan Singh’s doors to explain him about the urgency of granting Telangana state formation. He stressed PM to take immediate decision on Telangana issue. Later speaking to media he also spoke about the Vidarbha state demand in Maharashtra and said that he has no objection for carving Vidarbha state. Then, he says he would like to retire from politics to give way to younger generation.

There are some interesting reasons underlying his sudden demand for Telangana. Although, his NCP plays vital role in UPA government, back at home in Maharashtra, his party is mainly confined to Vidarbha region only. Presence of his party in the rest of the region is hardly felt as either it happen to be a strong holds of Shivsena or Congress party. Since, he is growing old and plans to handover the party reins to younger generation, which means to his daughter Supriya Sule, who represents Baramati as member of Parliament, in wake of upcoming elections, he wish he could safeguard her political interests as well as ‘her’ party interests in the state.

But, he fears that in his absence the Congress party may invade into his daughter’s territory-Vidarbha region. So, to ensure Congress party stay away from her territory, he talks about Telangana and then about Vidarbha state formation. If, the Congress plays any games with his daughter in his absence, he hints a likely support to the ongoing agitation for separate Vidarbha state.

Hence, it is to be understood that he is just warning the Congress party, but not serious about Telangana. If, he is really honest and has sympathy for Telangana issue, he would have pressurized the Congress party as a member of UPA alliance long ago. But, he remain silent all these years and talks about it when he plans to retire from politics. However, TRS may not be interested about this story underneath his statement as it is just looking for support at national level come it may be a Pawar or some Maya.
