It’s no surprise to find out our kids and youth getting addicted to the mobile phones. They keep spending a lot of time with mobiles even before their bed. The scientists are warning that being addicted to information to gadgets would decrease the brain’s grey matter density, which is responsible for cognition and emotional control. “With the growing popularity of smartphones, one is addicted to the Internet — Facebook, Twitter and other such applications. These can cause insomnia, fragmented sleep, etc. Smartphone is a cause for parent-child conflict in 30% of the cases,” says K.K. Agarwal of Indian Medical Association. A recent research has also revealed that frequent digital media use is causing the risk of having symptoms of ADHD by about 10%. ADHD would lead to symptoms such as hyperactivity and inattentiveness.
