Ramnath Kovind Elected As 14th President

NDA backed candidate Ram Nath Kovind has been elected as 14th President of India. While Kovind secured 702044 votes (65.35%), the opposition backed Meira Kumar secured 367314 votes (34.65%). However, Ram Nath Kovind will be sworn-in as new President on July 25th.

Ram Nath Kovind is the first President hailing from Uttar Pradesh. Undivided Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have sent three President's to Rashtrapati Bhavan till date.

Ram Nath Kovind is a Dalit leader and a farmer's son. His humble origins and simple lifestyle were stressed by BJP Governments. He is indeed second Dalit President of India after KR Narayanan.
